Details

The Vermont Speech Language Hearing Association (VSHA) is seeking innovative strategies to boost membership engagement among medical-based professionals, such as Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Audiologists, who work in hospitals, home health, skilled nursing facilities, and private practices. The project aims to identify barriers that these professionals face in participating actively with VSHA and to develop tailored outreach strategies that resonate with their unique work environments. Students will conduct research to understand the specific challenges and preferences of these medical professionals in Vermont. By applying their classroom knowledge of communication, marketing, and healthcare systems, students will design initiatives that foster a stronger connection between VSHA and its medical-based members. The ultimate goal is to recommend actionable engagement initiatives that can be implemented by VSHA to enhance its value proposition and increase active participation among its members in medical settings.

Deliverables

The project deliverables will include a comprehensive report detailing the research findings on barriers to engagement, along with a set of tailored outreach strategies and engagement initiatives. Students will also create a presentation summarizing their recommendations, which will be shared with the VSHA board. Additionally, a prototype of one proposed engagement initiative, such as a digital campaign or a networking event plan, will be developed to demonstrate its feasibility and potential impact.

Other Deliverables May Include:

  • Survey/interview analysis from medical-based professionals across Vermont
  • Recommendations for member-only benefits specifically appealing to this group (e.g., specialist office hours, CEUs, case consultation groups)
  • A plan to launch a medical SLP and AuD special interest group, including moderator recruitment and virtual networking ideas
  • Sample newsletter features highlighting “VSHA Medical Members Doing Cool Work”
  • Suggested online forum structure for secure, low-pressure networking
