The CHAE project aims to engage students in developing community core competencies for workforce readiness by practicing in community-oriented settings to promote and preserve population health.
Learners
1) Conduct a population-focused health assessment to identify health needs in a selected community.
2) Use health informatics and technology to search, collect, and analyze data on community health needs.
3) Create a health project product to promote health behaviors and reduce health risks for a selected community.
4) Demonstrate community core competencies to provide professional evidence-based practice in community-oriented settings.
5) Appraise the achieved outcomes of the CHAE project for sustainability.
Project Examples
Requirements
1) Create "need to know" packets related to healthy eating for students in a selected community.
2) Plan a first-aid training session for a school or community.
3) Make a flyer of after-school safety tips for young children and distribute it to the community or school.
4) Create a play video that teaches young children how to stay safe at home while their parents are away and distribute it to the community.
5) Teach a class on the importance of wearing masks and hand washing for a selected school.
6) Create a program to teach about good nutrition for the elderly in the community.
7) Plan a teaching session or make flyers related to mental health for a school in a selected community.
8) Collaborate with schools on educational seminars for students about physical health issues.
9) Develop a wellness and disease management program based on improving baseline health numbers (e.g., weight, BMI, body composition, cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure) in a selected community.
10) Develop a poster to use at the fair booth about prescription drug abuse and proper disposal of prescription drugs in a selected community.
11) Set up a tobacco prevention booth and give cessation presentations at health fairs or a selected community setting.
