Teen Programming and Workforce Development

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area (BGCCA) are currently looking for determined and dedicated individuals to assist with our Fall Teen programming schedule as well as our Workforce Development Program. While these are two separate entities, the volunteer serving with either program will be assisting the program director with scheduling events, overseeing existing programs, and serving in a mentorship capacity. A more detailed description of each role is listed below:Workforce Development:-The purpose of our Workforce Development program is to provide teens and young adults with professional skills and experience that they may not receive otherwise. Additionally, the program aims to steer its participants towards the college track by providing them with information, assistance, and mentors that may not be available to them otherwise.-This program is most actively seeking student mentors (current or recently graduated college students) who must be available to meet with mentees at least twice per week.-Mentors must also be available to assist with event planning activities (events such as resume workshops, job fairs, etc...).Teen Programming:-We are also currently looking for volunteers/interns to assist with our Fall teen programming season. The Boys & Girls Club is not only a place for kids to learn and express themselves, but teens too! Teen programs take more of a "drop-in/drop-out" format, so essentially teens can come and go as they please.-We are currently looking for individuals to assist our teen programming director in brainstorming, scheduling, and conducting different events and programs for the Fall.-Interested interns/volunteers will not necessarily serve as direct mentors, however they will still serve as role models to the teens in program and will also directly facilitate programs and events. The BGCCA is currently looking to have new interns/volunteers onboard for these two exciting programs! Neither position is paid, however we would be more than willing to have both positions satisfy credit hours, community service hours, and/or internship experience. If you would like more information about either of these opportunities, please email volunteer@bgccapitalarea.org. We look forward to hearing from you!

Lyricism 101 Expansion

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area (BGCCA) are seeking new volunteers that would be able to aid in the expansion of our Lyricism 101 program. Lyricism 101 is an ongoing program designed to cultivate and amplify the powerful yet growing voices of teens and young adults. With the assistance of our fully functioning recording studio, participants are able to write, produce, and record their own music, providing them with the opportunity to tell their stories, build their community, and express their own artistic visions. While the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed the world to a crawl, the BGCCA is determined to continue with Lyricism 101. Thanks to generous donations and grants, we have been able to refurbish and outfit an old van with its own recording studio, so that Lyricism 101 may continue undeterred by the pandemic! The BGCCA is excited to announce that we plan to further expand Lyricism 101 within the next few weeks so that program participants will also be taught how to play real instruments!
