Ten years ago, Oakville, Ontario mothers Joni Lien and Chris Wood met through the friendship of their grade 2 daughters. Both were managing full-time jobs and caring for their families, and both of them knew that families could benefit from a service that would help them to provide their families with delicious, wholesome home-cooked meals despite hectic schedules. In November, 2005, Joni and Chris decided to change careers, launching SupperWorks, the first meal assembly business in Ontario.
Co-founder Joni Lien says, "We're both busy Moms and we knew all about the pressures of shrinking family time in today's busy world." Joni and Chris were also concerned about the sacrifices in nutrition, taste and quality made by many families drawn to fast foods and TV dinners. "We felt that with SupperWorks, we could bring a healthy, cost-effective and fun solution to the 'dinner time dilemma'."
Over the past ten years, the business grew, and there are now fourteen SupperWorks locations in Ontario. Each location helps to put hot, fresh and nourishing food on the dinner tables of busy families. SupperWorks has recently launched a delivery service, which provides meals from SupperWorks no matter where they live in Canada.
SupperWorks is now solely owned and operated by Joni Lien, the founder and CEO. Joni has received the 2007 Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Oakville Chamber of Commerce/Rotary Club. The business also received the 2006 Retail Concept Award in recognition of achievements and innovations in its new retail concept from Cadillac Fairview.
SupperWorks has been featured on television shows, including Breakfast Television, CH Morning, Fortune Hunters and "Til Debt Do Us Part." Magazine and newspaper features include Maclean's Magazine, The Globe and Mail, City Parent, and West of the City.
