Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Our organization is committed to serving COLAGErs/queerspawn (people with one or more LGBTQ+ caregiver/parent). In order to do so, we need to deepen our relationships and expand our fundraising efforts.

We would like to collaborate with a student intern project by project beginning with a fundraising event to help meet our goals.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with our mission, values and goals.
  • Working to offset the costs of our established budget and increase the fundraising for each event.
  • Creating a plan of action and a detailed breakdown of tasks for volunteers to complete at the event.
  • Researching and soliciting in kind donations
  • Assisting in marketing and promoting our event.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Recommending improvements for future fundraising events.
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of our mission, values and goals
  • Creation/fine tuning of a plan of action
  • Communicate which items will be donated and which will need to be purchased
  • Have clear record keeping of in-kind donations (gift card numbers, logistics for picking up items, etc.
  • Breakdown/schedule of each event (who will be doing what when and where?)

Bonus steps would include:

  • Recommending areas of improvement for future events
  • Create ActBlue donation pages

Final deliverables should include

  • A budget breakdown and event plan.
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our mission, values and goals
  • Our programs and fundraising events
  • Prior connections/relationships with businesses
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter
  • Template emails and sample scripts for phone calls
  • Access to spreadsheets and documents with background information related to each event
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Event planning
  • Willingness to make cold calls to local and national businesses to ask for donations

Students can complete this project without any of the prior knowledge listed here. Students will be expected to research and learn more about the above as the project goes along.

About the company

We are a national organization with a fully remote team. Candidates should be comfortable working in a virtual environment. COLAGE unites people with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer parents into a network of peers and supports them as they nurture and empower each other to be skilled, self-confident, and just leaders in our collective communities.
