About Peak Experiences Ltd.

Peak Experiences Ltd. is a Canadian experiential education company founded in 2017. While traditionally focused on in-person learning experiences, I am now exploring building digital tools that support my community of impact-focused educators, non-profits, arts organizations, and researchers globally.

Project Background and Need

Through conversations with other educators and researchers, I have identified a gap in the market for collaborative, reflective storytelling tools after FlipGrid was discontinued. Many educators and qualitative researchers need a privacy-conscious, asynchronous platform for collecting and analyzing participant narratives through video, voice, and text-based responses.

This project will explore the design of a mobile-friendly website prototype that allows:

  • Asynchronous collection of narratives via multimedia submissions.
  • A “tapestry” of insights, where participants can view and respond to others’ reflections.
  • Privacy-conscious design, ensuring ethical handling of participant data.
  • An accessible and user-friendly interface for a diverse user base

This will involve:

  • Conducting UX research & competitive analysis (e.g. FlipGrid, MirrorTalk).
  • Holding a discovery meeting to refine project goals and requirements.
  • Interviewing potential users (students, educators, researchers, or evaluators) to gather insights.
  • Developing wireframes and prototypes to demonstrate key platform features.
  • Presenting a final prototype with research-backed design recommendations.
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should complete the following list of activities:

  • Apply design thinking principles to a real-life challenge and ideation process
  • Define a problem statement
  • Identify user pain points and needs
  • Identify a value proposition
  • Familiarize themselves with a design tool of their choosing (e.g. Figma, Miro) and understand how it works.
  • Design and build inside of the design tool all the needed screens for a prototype.
  • Present the final prototype with the context of all the choices they made, problems they encountered, and the next steps they recommended.

Bonus steps would include:

  • User research report, highlighting needs, pain points, and competitive analysis.
  • Value Proposition Canvas + 5-10 Concept Sketches
  • Identify a Minimum Viable Product (MVP)- suggestions for the most basic functional prototype, or a composite using existing tool.
  • Outline accessibility & inclusivity requirements for a diverse user base.

Final deliverables should include

  • Prototype assets for further testing and development in a shareable format
  • A 30-minute presentation on research, findings, and justifications of the proposed design
  • A final report
