Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

We are a Montreal-based community-building & co-living platform with features and a culture that facilitate and deepen in-person safe connections for families, especially single parents and newcomers feeling burned out and alone, where they can give and receive trusted and reliable family-like support, fostering a real sense of belonging . . . one neighbourhood at a time. We are a social enterprise, both online and in-person, in collaboration with Concordia University's D3 Innovation Hub. We wish to facilitate healthy, resilient, sustainable living between families and take the guesswork out of community building.

We presently have a pilot of 300 families in a closed Facebook group and are now ready to transition off of that platform onto our own online community and App that we aim to soft launch an MVP imminently.

We have clearly defined bite-sized elements to the MVP that we need to still develop, hence this posting.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?
  • To write effective & clear user stories that lead to properly architect a Full-stack Web App
  • Discern requirements for designing (UI/UX, MVC components, Routes, API endpoints, database schemas) and developing a working product (full stack web application)
  • Work collaboratively using multi-developer tools and agile methodologies and principles for implementing a solution that effective meets project goals and requirements
  • Develop the different parts of the application from the user interface to data management
  • Implement, test and deliver functionalities according to our standards
  • Use creative problem solving for troubleshooting issues and debugging broken code that leads to identification of the root cause and implementation of an effective solution
  • Effectively document requirements & communicate the architecture and technology stack
  • Besides coding and the development effort towards the project, there is an emphasis on communication, collaboration, time management, and professionalism
How will you support learners in completing the project?

We are a small team for the moment, yet with every team we work with, we will have regular check-ins with goal setting and sprints to keep us all motivated and moving forward. For us creating an inclusive and healthy working community where we can all show up as our full selves and feel supported is a big part of our business model.

The students will have the support of our Project Manager who is responsible for scrums, questions and resource material, and our Lead Senior Developer who overlooks and reviews all code before being pushed into our main. We have a set of protocols that the students will follow and a weekly Lunch&Learn covering the technology that we are implementing.

About the company

We are a social enterprise, both online and on the ground, in collaboration with D3 and the Refinery. We’re creating an online p2p community marketplace for medium to long term FAMILY-LIKE community building, where parents, especially single mothers... feeling burned out and alone... can access, trusted and reliable community-help they need by either podding up together or co-live together. Our goal is to facilitate the families in the matching process (AI) with other families so they can find support and belonging, and to empower families by bringing them together and facilitate healthy, resilient, sustainable living between them.

We presently have a pilot of 300 families in a closed FB group, ready to transition onto our own platform and App. We are always looking to collaborate with passionate people who are into social impact and are mission driven. We are eager to work with those that have the sensibilities and broad skillset germane to this kind of community initiative
