Details

Resilient Hearts aims to develop an online platform designed to facilitate real-world learning experiences for young adults with developmental disabilities. The platform will focus on teaching life skills and social skills in an engaging and accessible manner. Through interactive modules, virtual simulations, and community-driven content, users will have opportunities to gain practical skills, build social connections, and enhance their independence in daily life.

Objectives:

  • Accessible Learning: Create a user-friendly, accessible platform tailored to the cognitive and physical needs of users with developmental disabilities.
  • Life Skills Development: Provide virtual modules and simulations for daily tasks like cooking, budgeting, personal hygiene, and time management.
  • Social Skills Training: Include scenarios and games that teach communication, conflict resolution, and community participation.
  • Supportive Learning Environment: Facilitate engagement through an interactive, supportive online community where learners can practice skills and collaborate.
  • Monitoring & Feedback: Enable teachers, caregivers, and mentors to track progress and provide personalized feedback to users.
Deliverables

Key Features:

  1. Interactive Modules: Interactive, step-by-step lessons for life skills (e.g., managing finances, job applications, grocery shopping) and social skills (e.g., making friends, teamwork).
  2. Virtual Simulations: Gamified simulations of real-world experiences such as attending a job interview, dining in a restaurant, or using public transportation.
  3. Community & Peer Interaction: A safe, moderated space where users can communicate with peers, ask questions, and share their learning experiences.
  4. Accessible Design: The platform will be optimized for accessibility (e.g., screen readers, customizable font sizes, simple navigation, and visual aids for easy understanding).
  5. Progress Tracking: Built-in progress reports and badges to motivate learners. Teachers, parents, and mentors can review completed tasks and offer feedback.
  6. Mobile and Desktop Compatibility: Responsive design to ensure usability across different devices.

Project Phases:

  1. Research & Requirement Gathering: Conduct thorough research on the needs of young adults with developmental disabilities, involving interviews with caregivers, educators, and users.
  2. Design & Prototype: Develop a wireframe and low-fidelity prototype, focusing on UX/UI for accessibility. Receive feedback from stakeholders, including users with disabilities and experts in the field.
  3. Development & Testing: Build the platform, ensuring all modules and features are functional. Perform usability testing with real users to address accessibility needs and user experience issues.
  4. Deployment & Evaluation: Launch the platform, monitor its usage, and gather user feedback to improve the learning content and features.

Technology Stack:

  • Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (React or Vue.js for dynamic interfaces)
  • Backend: Node.js with Express.js, Python (for AI-based feedback systems)
