Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Thermo Fisher Scientific is developing a ‘Best Tier’ pH meter that will be sold globally. This pH meter will be used in are pharmaceutical, biotech, hospitals and laboratories, food, and beverage manufacturing. This product will be designed around what the users in these target markets need and want. The work that will be completed through this partnership with Springboard will help us understand our target users, gain a deeper understanding of what the competitive landscape is like, and receive research based targeted design recommendations and wireframes.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?
  1. Competitive analysis – Competitive analysis report/presentation comparing pH meters, highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. Identify key competitors in the biopharmaceutical industry. Evaluate their products, features, pricing, and user experience. Compare their strengths, weaknesses, and unique selling points. Look for opportunities where your product can differentiate itself and meet unmet user needs. Possible tool: Heuristic review - Usability evaluation report/presentation with recommendations for improving the user experience of pH meters. Identify key competitors in the biopharmaceutical industry. Evaluate their products, features, pricing, and user experience. Compare their strengths, weaknesses, and unique selling points. Look for opportunities where your product can differentiate itself and meet unmet user needs.
  2. Present research findings/design recommendations Take findings gathered during project, conduct analysis/synthesis, identify themes, and generate a report to be presented to product team. Report should include study background, purpose, methodology, executive summary, design recommendations/next steps, and findings details.
  3. Storyboard design recommendations – Use the areas of opportunity found in the research findings to create story boards for features or flows that the students and product team can integrate into the product based on the user needs and competitive landscape. Share the storyboard concepts to with the product team for feedback.
  4. Create & present wireframes – Use the feedback the product team gives to create final wireframes for the chosen features or flows. Create a presentation that includes the research findings, design recommendations and final design deliverables.
  5. Create a discussion guide/script for user testing – Create a discussion guide that will be utilized to get feedback of designs with internal subject matter experts.
