Our organization is able to offer a virtual internship opportunity for 5+ computer science students or 1-2 teams.

About Headlamp, Inc.

Our vision is to ensure all veterans, especially our junior enlisted and younger non-commissioned officers, achieve their optimum career outcomes after serving.

The product we are building is a veteran community for career and transition. We serve veterans through a multi-tenant community platform paid for by our customers, who are veteran-facing organizations like not-for-profit veteran service organizations (VSO’s) and employers’ veteran hiring initiatives. On our platform, these organizations can engage more effectively with their veterans, scale operations, and, by joining a larger “community of communities", reach more veterans.

We think creating a “market network” linking existing services is a better environment for veterans, employers, and VSO’s to find each other and to generate the best outcomes.

For veterans, we provide “career information sharing” as they navigate the communities. Veterans working with our customers will get pooled data (data we collect from them and from our customers), access to market data (like labour market data from Emsi), and a social network for transition, where they can crowdsource information and find the right resources to figure out their best paths.

Opportunity

Get in on the ground floor with a great team with an even greater mission! Gain valuable experience working with an accomplished Silicon Valley senior engineering manager (see Marc LeBrun) in the development process from Alpha to MVP! Possibility to grow internship into a full time position.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in requirements development and refinement. We are organizing to do sprints and to deliver iterations to our client.

The primary focus for the students will be: to deliver an MVP website IAW our strawman architecture (see attached).

We would like a new website for our organization. We are currently working on Azure and utilizing Webflow tools. However, students will have some flexibility to introduce other specific tools and technologies.

Students should be prepared to:

  • Conduct a needs analysis to determine which platform is most suitable.
  • Create a design proposal including mock-ups, budget, and timeline.
  • Build a fully-functioning website.
  • Provide training on updating and maintaining the site.

Our primary goal at the end of this experience is:

  • Website Development - For the student(s) to complete a fully functioning MVP website.

Other projects could include:

  • Application Development - Selecting the best technologies for creating the application or feature (i.e. a real-time chat function); creating a fully-functioning application.
  • Software Evaluation (e.g. new CRM) - Conducting a needs analysis; researching available options; evaluating the options within the context of our organization's budget, immediate needs, and projected needs.
  • Open Source Software Management - Researching potential open source tools for our organization’s use; contributing to open source projects through bug fixing or feature implementation.
  • Database Analysis - Decreasing query execution time; Changing ORM code in hotspots to more efficient SQL. Working web site with signup and profiles.

Our Vision: Rebuild the backbone of American business. Our mission is to ensure all veterans, especially our junior enlisted and younger non-commissioned officers, achieve their optimum career outcomes after serving our nation.

The product we are building is a veteran community for career and transition in the form of a virtual multi-tenant community forum for veteran-facing organizations, like not-for-profit veteran serving organizations (VSO’s) and employers’ veteran hiring initiatives. On our platform, customers can engage more effectively with their veterans, scale operations, and, by joining the larger “community of communities", reach more veterans.

For veterans, we provide “career information sharing” as they navigate the communities. We think this will create a better experience for veterans, employers, and organizations that help with veteran employment and transition.
