Project Description and Scope

The Career Centre is seeking students that are interested in developing a self-directed on-line career course in Canvas as part of the Perspectives Program (a self-directed online career development program) that will support BIE students with access to up-to-date insights and resources for interview preparation.

Students will have the opportunity to:

● Carefully review interview resources currently available to BIE students through the VSE Career Centre, the Centre for Student Involvement and Careers, and Arts and Sauder Co-op

● Conduct further research to understand both in person and online interviewing as it has evolved through the pandemic using both online resources and in person interviews; determine potential changes in interviewing for the upcoming year as employers transition to a hybrid recruitment process

● Complete a detailed outline for the course in collaboration with the Program Development Assistants; gain final approval from the Director

● Create the online course in Canvas utilizing relevant materials

· You have the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic environment

· You have an affinity or interest in team and project-based work and able to work independently

· You have a passion for technical work, solving issues using technology, and web-based development projects

· You have excellent organizational and time management skills

· You have effective oral and written communication skills

· You have basic office administrative skills and the ability to operate standard office equipment

Qualifications:

● Intermediate-level Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

● Experience using Canvas or creating content on Canvas preferred

● Previous experience with recruitment, interviewing, and/or working at a career centre preferred

● Resourceful and able to research best practices for interviewing

● Creative design and/or course development experience

● Ability to deal with a diversity of internal and external stakeholders in a calm, courteous, and effective manner

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills in all forms (email, phone, in-person)

● Able to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity

● Equally at ease working independently and in a team environment

● Previous Project Management and/or Program Development and/or Administrative experience is preferred

● Must be able to work 10 hours per week for 8 weeks

Student will receive:

- Weekly oversight through prescheduled meetings

- Constant feedback on operations

- Recommendations and potential to return for other projects after completion
