Details

Safi is a nonprofit initiative aimed at providing Kenyan herders with safe to drink milk. We are doing this by providing them with a pasteurization handle that pasteurizes your milk before consuming. The main goal for this project is to add a temperature sensor to the handle, so that it signals (through beep or colour or any suggestion) to a user when the milk has reached a certain temperature and pasteurization is completed.

Our one pager can be found here: https://www.safi.world/_files/ugd/dc5ed8_2a5a097d96984942960aca70e6655695.pdf

Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should provide a MVP of a handle (with materials that we purchase) that is able to sense when milk reaches a certain temperature, and signals to the user. We will require both a full 3D model and/or functional prototype, with potential embedded systems design and code.

Mentorship

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Current product understanding
  • Current research into the problem and current solutions
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter
