Prior to graduation, all Bachelor of Interior Design students must complete a minimum of 180 hours for-credit work experience to gain industry experience as a pre-professional.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually.
Learners
Deliverables will vary depending on the scope of the project. The student should complete a minimum of 180 hours with your organization by November 30th 2021.

Project Examples
Requirements
Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates a structure for the internship, and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.
Project examples that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:
- Recommending materials and components suitable for end-use and specifications
- Developing sketches for conceptual design intent, e.g. elevations, plans, sections or original product
- Drafting plans, either manually or digitally
- Preparing renderings manually or digitally
- Space planning
- Programming, or analyzing the sequencing of and execution of plans
- Communication and cooperating with management of facilities
- Assisting designers with design, production or installation tasks and responsibilities
- Site measuring/site survey (e.g. furniture inventory)
- Organizing and compiling materials and data having relevance to specific designs
- Assisting with administrative duties pertaining to the management of design, production processes or installations
- Calculating costs and expenses (budgets and estimates)
DIDP420 Internship is a 400 level course. At this stage of the student's academic career, they have an appropriate level of skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully to design projects in a firm.
Additional company criteria
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Be able to fill in an Hour Tracking sheet for students.
Provide a dedicated contact who will act as the student's primary supervisor over the duration of the virtual placement. A secondary contact should be provided as a backup. Students will interact virtually with their primary contact on a daily basis, or as needed.
Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.
Placements are for-credit experience for students, but honorariums are welcomed if your organization is able to provide a stipend for the student.
