Details

Are you looking for some fresh thinking for your business? Bring on students from Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. A team of around 5-6 students will work on one challenge over the course of the project, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students undertaking these projects will apply their learning about the global supply chain and the principles and concepts underlying the strategic and operational performance of organisations in relation to one another - how to manage effectively in increasingly global work environments.


Please note: If you are interested in this project contact between Nottingham Business School and your organisation will take place outside of the Riipen platform. Likewise, the student project will take place off-platform. This format has been agreed with Riipen in advance.

Deliverables

At the end of the project the team of students will report back to you their research findings conclusions and recommendations.

This will be delivered in the following formats:

  1. A 30 minute oral presentation facilitated by their academic supervisor, including a Q&A
  2. A 3,000 - 4,000 word report summarising their research, analysis, insights and recommendations, plus any appendices and references
Project Examples

Students in groups of approximately 5-6 will work with your company on a challenge to provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.


Employer partners please select one of the following challenges:

  1. Your organisation wishes to develop a growth strategy with the objective of entering new markets and is seeking recommendations.
  2. Your organisation wishes to launch an existing product into a different market and is seeking recommendations from an international strategy (or marketing, or consumer analysis, etc.) perspective.


By the time the students start work on their project they will already have completed most of their postgraduate qualification. The following list details some of the topics students will have studied:


MSc in Management and International Business specific

Core modules – skills obtained

  • Demonstrate an understanding of a range of strategic management concepts that can be utilised to explore and guide effective action in dynamic organisational environments
  • Knowledge of the principles and concepts underlying delivering value integrating operations, people and financial management
  • Understand how a range of financial and operations management tools and approaches can be practically applied in support of an organisation’s business strategy
  • Develop the capability to strategically focus the management planning, control and improvement processes in a range of business environments
  • Understand how organisations create strategies to increase competitiveness in a rapidly changing environment
  • Understand human resourcing issues and problems arising from the internalisation of business.
  • Understand the global supply chain and the principles and concepts underlying the strategic and operational performance of organisations in relation to one another

Non-core (optional) modules. NB: Not all students take every optional module

  • Recognise the value of developing skills and gaining work experience of operating in a different overseas context
  • Knowledge of differing frameworks and innovative tools available that allow businesses both large and small to develop business in new markets
  • Understanding of the changes taking place in the global economy


MSc in International Business specific

Core modules – skills obtained:

  • Acquire the tools and the mind-set for making sense of the notion of strategy in an international environment. Awareness of key political, socio-economic, and cultural dynamics and trends that characterize the international business environment.
  • Develop critical insight into the global organisation arena: develop a set of key concepts, theories, models, and cases aimed at addressing and rethinking core aspects of organizing and managing
  • Understand the role of the organizational factor within an international context: Critically self-reflect, and demonstrate an international awareness and openness to the world, based on an appreciation of social and cultural diversity


Semester two module choices. NB: IB students will choose between these two pathways


Either

Study abroad at a partner institutions in Germany, France, South Korea, Czech Republic, Belgium, Sweden, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Slovenia, Poland, Switzerland or Portugal


Or the stay-at-home route:

  • Understand human resourcing issues and problems arising from the internalisation of business.
  • Understand the global supply chain and the principles and concepts underlying the strategic and operational performance of organisations in relation to one another
  • Recognise the value of developing skills and gaining work experience of operating in a different overseas context

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for milestone meetings, and to address students’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

Be available for an initial virtual meeting with Nottingham Business School Experiential Learning Team to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.

Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.
