Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from National University to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the term, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students in this program will be provided in-depth analysis in the application of CQI methodology. This course will explore the challenges of implementation and institutionalization, draw examples from a variety of health care organizations including primary care clinics, hospital laboratories, public health departments, and academic health centers. Concepts include the role of patients in CQI, assessing risk and preventing harm, strategies to promote and improve Safety and Quality, the use of social marketing in the implementation of new CQI techniques, continuous quality improvement in U.S. Public Health organizations, and future trends for continuous improvement in health care.

Deliverables

Deliverables will vary depending on the scope of the internship/capstone. However, these deliverables must be discussed and agreed upon prior to the start.

Project Examples

Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the internship/capstone, and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

Student skills and competencies include, but are not limited to:

  • Describing concepts and measures of healthcare quality.
  • Explaining factors leading to a greater emphasis on quality measurement and improvement of care.
  • Reviewing tools used in healthcare quality measurement and improvement.
  • Identifying how healthcare delivery models are evaluated.
  • Explaining how risk management methods are used to anticipate, prevent and/or solve healthcare issues.
  • Listing quality improvement and evaluation strategies with systems such as Six Sigma.
  • Describing diverse perspectives used to address quality and safety issues in healthcare organizations.
  • Discussing changes in healthcare delivery to achieve the Institute of Medicine's goals to improve healthcare quality.
