Learner goals and capabilities

The Practicum is the “capstone” of the Health Services Management (HSM) and the Health Information Management (HIM) programs at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University. It is for credit and unpaid.

During Practicum, students are provided the opportunity to apply management theory and concepts in a working environment. Specifically, they conduct a project that addresses a management issue experienced by your healthcare organization, within the context of their understanding of organizational systems.

Practicum placement occurs between 4 and 6 months prior to the actual seminar, when students are actually on site working on their project, (July to September for the winter course, March to May for the fall course).

Over the course of the Practicum semester, students spend a pre-arranged number of hours per week (minimum 42 hours total over the semester) at your healthcare organization.
