In this course, students in their final year of the 2-year Fitness and Health Promotion diploma program have the opportunity to integrate their learning into a placement experience in a community-based setting relevant to the field. These placements give students the opportunity to implement their skills and knowledge and assess their personal performance, while also gaining valuable experience as professionals. Students in this program have expertise in employing necessary fitness and health promotion theories, skills, and competencies related to the workplace environment.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

The final project deliverables may include an array of products based on the needs of the partner organization. This could include creation of virtual coaching materials, marketing programs, social media profiles, individualized training programs, group based health promotion course content, etc.

Project Examples

Students can complete an array of different project styles to meet the expectations of this course, including , but not limited to:

  • Creating a simplified health and exercise program (the program can be generic or tailored to specific employees or be as simple as recommending physical activity guidelines from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology);
  • Develop training videos or modules for virtual coaching clients related to fitness or health promotion, fitness or leisure programming for clients or groups, etc.);
  • Proficiently apply an array of fitness and health promotion skills and competencies as required by the workplace;
  • Displaying a sound theoretical foundation by adapting programs, interventions, and services to meet clients' individual needs and abilities.
