design problem solving project planning data analysis researchStudent-consultant groups will address an open-ended engineering design problem your organization faces under the guidance of a faculty member with specific expertise in the problem area. Project needs to be appropriate for 2nd Year Engineering students and capable of being completed in about 9 weeks. Opportunities for students to apply Engineering Science (Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Electric Circuits, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics , etc.) knowledge to the project is the primary objective of the design exercise.

Project Examples
Beginning this January 2021, our 2nd Year Engineering students will collaborate with you to solve an engineering design problem that your organization faces.
Based on the information that you provide, student-consultant teams will work under the guidance of professors to develop innovative solutions through implementing engineering principles.
Past project examples include, but are not limited to:
- Improving Accessibility on Campus
- Design of an E-Bike Conversion Kit
- Reduction of Snow and Ice Accumulation on Stairs Through Heated Paneling
- Design and Implementation of Medical Assistance Drone
- Design of a Universally Accessible Garden
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
The topics proposed should also be relevant to Engineering program.
The client should be invested in the proposed topic in order to provide mutual benefits to all parties involved.
Be available for a quick phone call with the organizer to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the experience.
Provide a dedicated contact who will be available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address student’s questions or provide additional information.
Companies should specify their ability to share information (e.g., needed data) and whether or not an NDA would be required. If data is needed for project completion, it should be made available to the students by early September 2020. Otherwise, the match can not be finalized.
Minimum of 4 to 6 interactions with the students in-person or remotely (approximately 16 to 24 hours over the duration of the project).
