November 9, 2024Description:
During this milestone, learners will conduct thorough user research to gather insights that inform the design process. The focus will be on understanding the target users, their needs, pain points, and behaviors. This research phase involves methods such as user interviews, surveys, and competitor analysis.
Key Deliverables:
-
User Personas: Fictional characters representing the target audience, based on research findings. -
Journey Maps: Visual representations of the user’s interactions with the product or service over time, highlighting opportunities for improvement. -
Research Report: A comprehensive document outlining the key insights gathered from research and how they will inform design decisions moving forward.
Objective: By the end of this milestone, learners will have a clear understanding of the users and the context in which the product will be used, ensuring that the next steps in the design process are aligned with real user needs.

November 15, 2024Wireframing & Low-Fidelity Prototyping Description:
In this milestone, learners will translate their research insights into initial design concepts through wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes. This stage focuses on structuring the layout, user flows, and key interactions without getting bogged down by detailed visual design. It’s an essential step in creating a blueprint for the final product.
Key Deliverables:
-
Wireframes: Simple, skeletal outlines of the key screens and pages, showing the arrangement of elements (navigation, buttons, content areas) without color or detailed styling. -
User Flows: Diagrams illustrating how users will navigate through the product to accomplish tasks. -
Low-Fidelity Prototype: An interactive, basic version of the product that allows stakeholders and users to test key functionalities and user journeys.
Objective: By the end of this milestone, learners will have created a clear framework for the product, focusing on structure, functionality, and user experience. This prototype will be tested and refined before moving on to higher fidelity designs.

User-Centered Research:
- Learners are capable of conducting in-depth user research using techniques such as surveys, interviews, and user testing. They understand how to gather and analyze user needs, pain points, and behavior patterns to inform design decisions.
Prototyping and Wireframing:
- Learners can develop low- and high-fidelity wireframes and prototypes using tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD. These deliverables help visualize ideas and are used to communicate the design process to stakeholders.
Information Architecture:
- Students are trained to organize and structure content in a way that enhances usability, making it easier for users to navigate through websites, apps, or other digital products.
