Overview

The Public Service program is a post-graduate certificate program, meaning each of the students has at least a college diploma or university degree. Students in the program hope to work in government or the non-profit sector. The capstone project is a major project completed by teams of four to six students from January to April each semester. The students will spend approximately 40 to 50 hours each on the project, allowing for a substantial amount of work to be completed.

For grant writing projects, the students will complete a first draft of the grant application, write a summary of the program, and prepare a press release announcing the successful receipt of the grant. For the advocacy project, the student will complete a background report on the issue, prepare a one page summary for sharing with a politician, and will prepare a draft opinion article on the issue.
Project Examples
In terms of projects, we are looking for things that fit into one of two categories. Either projects that involve writing the first draft of a grant application or projects that involve supporting a government advocacy campaign.
