Students submit their project research and site/scope analysis, present their initial, schematic ideas for the design direction in terms of space planning and visual concept. Their written program statement summarizes their understanding of the problem and project scope and describes their initial concept for the design that they plan to develop.

September 30, 2024Design Development Critique
Students present in-progress drawings and selections for the project to peers and faculty demonstrating successful development/refinement of their stated design concept.

October 28, 2024Professional Critique
Students present in-progress drawings and selections for the project to a panel of local design professionals and faculty demonstrating successful development/refinement of their stated design concept bases on their response to previous critique. The presentation includes their final floor plan, lighting plan, and preliminary furniture/finish/fixture selections for the project illustrated in 3D renderings.

December 9, 2024Final Presentation of Deliverables
Students present their completed project to peers and faculty. All student files are then collected, organized, and shared with a graphic designer who brands and formats all projects based on the students' direction for display as part of the Interior Architecture + Design BFA Senior Exhibition in February, 2025.

This is a capstone experience for Interior Architecture and Design students. Senior interior design students apply design thinking and professional design process to the interior design of a commercial space (2,000-5,000 sq.ft.) such as an office, retail, or hospitality environment.

Students work individually and under the guidance of faculty to produce a set of plans including floor plans (space, lighting, and furniture plans) interior elevations, custom millwork drawings, and 3D photorealstic renderings of the finished space. Finish/fixture selections selections are also included in the project scope.
Project Examples
Assisted living facility, medical clinic, education space, church, restaurant, hospitality (event or conference space, small lodging facility) office complex, potentially any commercial space within the 2,000-5,000 square foot range.
