Details

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on learners from University Canada West to be your virtual interns, in a project-based experience. Learners will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the internship period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.


This course addresses the evolving nature of work, emphasizing project-based organization influenced by technological advancements and globalization. It provides students with foundational knowledge and practical experience in project delivery across various industries.


The curriculum covers project management principles and their application in real-world scenarios, fostering skills in scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, risk procurement, communication, and integration management. The course employs an interactive and participatory approach, requiring students to actively engage in discussions, assignments, and a team-based project. Consistent attendance and thorough preparation are essential for applying project management concepts effectively throughout the semester.

Deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the learners and the organization. 


Some final project deliverables might include: 

  1. A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations


Project Examples

Applying Project Management Theory, students will analyze and plan upcoming projects, addressing requirements, risks, costs, timelines, and responsibilities. They'll develop efficient strategies to achieve organizational goals and manage stakeholders, overseeing the plan's execution.


Examples of potential projects encompass, but are not restricted to:

  1. Developing a new website.
  2. Implementing a new software or system.
  3. Facilitating a business process change.
  4. Executing a marketing initiative.
  5. Launching a new product or service.
  6. Evaluating new technology.
  7. Organizing an event or workshop.


**It is important to note that students will not carry out the specific tasks detailed in the project plan, such as building a website or organizing an event. Instead, their role involves coordinating and overseeing the execution of the plan.

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the experience.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address learners’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

Provide an opportunity for learners to present their work and receive feedback.

Provide relevant information and/or data as needed for the project.
