Description

MakerState & Student Union: Ensuring equitable access to hands-on STEAM/coding learning
MakerState and its non-profit, Student Union, inspire kids ages 4-18 with new science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) passions and skills through hands-on, in-school, after-school, and summer camp courses in coding and video game design, robot engineering, wearable electronic fashions, 3D design and printing, rocket science, moviemaking, and more. Students earn daily Challenge project badges in STEAM skills as well as Literacy, Math, Social Emotional and Executive Functioning skills as they build and learn. We operate more than 70 school-based makerspaces in NYC public schools and build ongoing capacity by training teachers through programs like the NSF Maker Partnership (Award #1742320) and NYC DOE’s “CS4all” (NYC DOE Vendor #0463406362), helping train over 5,000 New York City teachers how to include coding in their elementary and middle school project-based learning.
