Billy Bishop Museum
Billy Bishop Museum
Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada
Description

Billy Bishop Museum is a registered non-profit organization committed to preserving local history, including the childhood home of Victoria Cross recipient William Avery ’Billy’ Bishop. Located in the Bishop Family Home. The Victorian house was built in 1884 and is a beautiful example of Queen-Anne style architecture.

The museum seeks to engage our community by connecting local stories to the Canadian war experience and broader currents of global history.

Billy Bishop is Canada’s charismatic hero of the First World War 1914—1918. He is credited with 72 victories, making him the top Canadian flying ace. An adventurous, mischievous, and restless spirit, Billy was driven to be the best in all he did.
Take a step back in time to explore the lives of the Bishop Family, and discover the story of a Canadian icon.

The museum also serves to recognize the contributions of the many servicemen and servicewomen, and to honour our Veterans.

Mobile Application Development

Positions available: 6 (2 teams of 3 would be ideal) We would like to get an application developed for a new and exciting exhibit coming to the Museum this summer. With all of the changes due to covid-19 the Museum has had to adapt to get its exhibits and content out to the public, specifically via digital and virtual events and programs. Our latest exhibit is called the Military Heritage Walking Trail, and will involve sites in and around the city of Owen Sound that have a unique and specific military history. Because the bulk of this exhibit will be outside the physical walls of the Museum we need a way to curate the experience and make sure all of the information for each stop on the walking tail is accessible and interesting in the form of a mobile ap. We aren’t sure which platform we would like for it to be built on, but we have an idea of what we would like it to do. We would like to work with students who have new and creative ideas to engage our public, we are open to new ideas and love creativity, an interest in history would be an asset but is not required! Students should be prepared to: Conduct a needs analysis to determine which platform is most suitable. Create a design proposal including mock-ups, budget, and timeline. Create a eye catching marketing logo/poster for the Military Heritage Walking Trail exhibit so it is instantly recognizable and connected with Billy Bishop Museum. Build a fully-functioning mobile application. Provide training on updating and maintaining the site.
