Digital analytics: assessing the success and weaknesses of our digital presence

The main goal of this project is to assess the results of our digital presence by collecting, reviewing, and presenting website and social media analytics for Besa Global. This will mean working with the Besa Global team, and responsibilities will include collecting our data from Wix Webs and LinkedIn, developing reports/visualizations, and presenting these to our team. The ideal person for this position has an exceptional eye for detail, expertise with data collection and presentation/communication, and a love of numbers and problem solving.

New 'look' needed (brand development)

# of individual students required: 1 Besa has been in existence for over a decade as a sole proprietorship working in the peacebuilding and fragile states space. Due to a merger between Besa and a research project formerly run out of a university, the company is at a different place now and needs a new cohesive look. We are looking for assistance in developing a new 'look book' that will tie together the old with the new. This would include a logo, accompanying Linkedin imagery, letterhead, email signatures and a simple guidance note detailing what colours are used etc. (though we are open to recommendations if we are missing something in this list). Students will be asked to review our existing web presence (Besa & the research project); interview Besa's founder to gain important direction and create a way to represent what we do in a cohesive set of images that represents the new entity. To ensure there is no unintentional overlap of the logo with another company, a simple web search will be done to confirm that there isn't anything too similar already in use. It is anticipated that this will be an iterative process requiring several discussions and meetings. The student will work primarily with the founder to gather information and prepare a set of options to be discussed. Work must be completed before end of March.

Integrated Digital Communications Platforms

# of individual students required: 1 Besa is soon to become the new home for a research project that was formerly based at a university. We work in the international development space with a focus on peacebuilding and corruption. This is a significant expansion for Besa and we need to move from ad hoc, labour intensive communications efforts to using existing platform(s) to create a professional and streamlined work stream. The purpose of this assignment is to develop a set of recommendations on how to best set up an integrated communications system that is user-friendly, integrated and cost-effective. We are looking for someone who is very technology-savvy, with experience (practical and/or academic) working in communications (including social media) for this role. The first step will be to assess our existing processes and platforms, communications objectives, audiences, size and the ramifications of an international audience (if any). Students will have access to our existing platforms and team members who currently work on our communications efforts. Once these parameters are mapped, a review of the market place for potential platforms (e.g. hubspot, mailchimp, hootsuite etc.) will be conducted. Identifying functionality (e.g. this platform allows you to post across multiple timezones), pros/cons and potential for integration (e.g. mailchimp can be integrated into wix backend). This is not a comprehensive market review, rather looking for the main software packages available. Finally the student will develop a recommendation for our new company to adopt including rationale for the recommendations e.g. pros/cons, skillset needed etc. The student(s) will work with our team to gather information and prepare a deliverable in a report style. A presentation would also be useful. Work must be completed before end of March.

Start Up Business Structure Implications

# of individual students required: 1 We are rolling an ongoing social science research to practice project from an institutional base to be it's own entity. We need someone to explore the different registration options in Canada and their implications both in terms of cost, legality, tax (internal). Our goal is to gain clarity on the right legal structure e.g. nonprofit, corporation, B-corp, foundation for our new entity. The task is three-part: 1. Research the options for formally incorporating e.g. company, B-corp, non-profit 2. identify the internal implications of each option e.g. financial, internal systems-process etc. At minimum identify the questions I need to ask to whom e.g. accountant, financial advisor etc. Deliverable would be a two part report - options, implications and recommendations. Ideally this would be completed by the end of May, but there is some room to discuss this if necessary.
