Improving Early Years for Black Families
We have an incredible opportunity to create a future where early years services are designed with Black families in mind. The main goal of this project is to gain a better understanding of how to create early years services that are welcoming and accessible for Black families. The project will collect data from both early childhood educators and the community through surveys in order to gain insights into how to reimagine early years services for Black families. The outcome of the project is to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of early childhood services for Black families in Toronto and Scarborough. For families, some areas we may want to explore: Perceptions of safety and belonging for Black families in the program Feedback on the current services and how they could be improved For staff educators, some areas we may want to explore: Recruitment and retention of Black families in the program Cultural competence and understanding of Black families' culture and experiences
