Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

The research assistants will support the research and development effort of the WaterHCI project under the guidance of Professor Mann, founder of MannLab.

The research assistants require a good understanding and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • electronics theory and practice (building things, making things, etc.);
  • fluid dynamics theory and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis;
  • programming in GNU Linux OS (ie. Ubuntu) with good familiarity with shell scripting, command-line interfaces, etc.;
  • JavaScript + WebGL;
  • design of electronic circuits, board layout, and component selection;
  • design of mechanical parts and material selection using FreeCAD or other free+open-source computing.

Phase 1

  • Conduct literature review to understand the concept ofs WaterHCI
  • Develop the prototype (code or hardware) for a WaterHCI device or initiative defined by the supervisor
  • Deliverable: a research summary and any code or hardware (if applicable)

Phase 2

  • Refine the prototype developed in Phase 1 to improve its functionality under the direction of the supervisor
  • Deliverable: a research summary and any code or hardware (if applicable)

Phase 3

  • Conduct testing of the prototype refined in Phase 2 and seek for user feedback
  • Deliverable: a research summary and any code or hardware (if applicable)

Phase 4

  • Further refined the prototype from Phase 3 so it is for deployment
  • Deliverable: a research summary and any deployed or published code or hardware (if applicable)
