Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

The Green Career Centreโ€™s mission is to prepare underrepresented youth for green careers. With a focus on supporting BIPOC, newcomers and women, the Green Career Centre works by and for these communities to bridge the gap between equitable, accessible and transparent social and environmental employment opportunities. With a climate justice lens and through ongoing consultations and focus groups, the Green Career Centre bridges the disconnect between these underserved communities and green careers in sustainability. We offer resources, events, and a strong network of support in order to integrate underserved communities into the green labour market in what is currently Canada.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Students will have several tasks to complete and can choose to work on any of the following:

  • Spearheading the research, development and data entry of the Green Skills Mapping Tool
  • Managing our Youth Green Jobs Network by approving underrepresented youth and employers to join the group and sharing with them a welcome message
  • Updating manuals and training guides to ensure the network is maintained
  • Sourcing entry-level green job opportunities and sharing postings in our Youth Green Jobs Network as well as our bi-weekly round-up
  • Liaising with employers in our network to give them one complimentary green job
  •  posting and collect testimonials for our website, social media, impact report and other marketing channels
  • Researching and developing new green career development resources based on demand
  • Updating our career development resources on our website such as our wage subsidy matching tool
  • Conducting outreach to employment agencies that serve underrepresented youth to give them a run-down on how to use our wage subsidy tool and collect testimonials
  • Writing blog articles about green career development (i.e. LinkedIn Sustainability Influencers to Follow, Women in Sustainability Freelancers to Hire, Green Resume Tips, etc.)
  • Speaking at community events about our organization and our service offerings

How will you support learners in completing the project?

We will support learners in the following ways to assist them with their work:

  • Weekly office hours
  • Weekly one hour check-in
  • Ongoing mentorship and career coaching
