Details

The mission of Project Adult Literacy Society is “Changing Lives Through Literacy.” PALS is a community-based literacy program that addresses the learning needs of adults with low literacy skills.

The goal of this project is to collaborate with students to create a video to raise awareness of literacy and the needs of adults with low literacy in the community.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with PALS, including our mission and goals.
  • Recording a presentation or screencast to share key messaging, raise awareness, and call the community to action.
  • Finding and applying suitable background music.
  • Adding text, transitions, and overlays to the video.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Presenting the video and making edits based on feedback.
  • Recommending ideas and editing tools for future awareness videos.
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of adult literacy needs, the challenges for adults with low literacy skills, how programs like PALS have a positive impact on adults and create lasting change.
  • Development of an awareness video

Bonus steps would include:

  • Revising the video based on feedback
  • Recommending ideas and tools for future videos

Final deliverables should include

  • A finalized video.

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:
