empirical research clinical research coordination informed consent ethical standards and conduct quality assurance survey platforms dependent variables psychology research experimentationI have positions available for up to 4 students for 80 hours each to develop and implement an online experiment in the Psychology Crime Lab @ MacEwan (PCL@M) supervised by Dr. Sandy Jung. The students on this team would learn how to conduct a literature review on risk factors related to campus sexual violence, develop stimuli and dependent variables for an online experiment, contribute to completing an ethics application, and build the online experiment through a survey platform (i.e., Qualtrics). The goal of this research project is to engage undergraduate students in the development of an experiment that examines student perceptions of perpetrators who have committed campus sexual violence. The goal of this project for a student research assistant is to learn how to develop experiments to examine an empirical research question in the social sciences.
The project may include, but is not limited to:
- Summarizing relevant peer-reviewed literature and using APA formatting as advised by the most recent version of the APA Publication Manual (approx 20 hours)
- Developing stimuli, such as a vignette, for an experiment and ensuring limited to no confounds in the stimuli (approx 10 hours)
- Assist the PCL@M research coordinator with the institutional ethics application and developing informed consent and debriefing protocols (approx 10 hours)
- Creating the experiment on a survey platform and ensuring quality assurance that the experiment is ready to lunch (10 hours)
- Attending meetings to plan, corresponding with principal researcher and research coordinator, and collaborating with and helping research team members (10 hours)
- Cleaning, organizing, and checking research data, assisting research coordinator with data analyses, and creating tables and figures (approx 20 hours)
I will provide all of the necessary training, access to Qualtrics and the research ethics platform, and library resources necessary to complete the project. I will also be directly involved in supervision of the student RAs involved with this project. I will meet with and/or correspond with the students once per week to monitor progress and provide assistance and feedback as needed.
