Overview

Our company thrives on creating new and exciting technology-based products. The current product that we are ideating / prototyping is an iOS and watchOS application to track and analyze Cross Country Skiing and Biathlon activities. Much like Runkeeper or Strava, the app will track speed, distance, and more. In distinction, our application will perform in-depth analysis to provide training feedback to the athlete.

Company Background

Shiverware has been making mobile applications for 10 years in many different areas (Musical Instruments, IoT, Fashion, Athletics, Consulting). Our track record of working with large multi-nation corporations, small startups, and research projects shows our commitment to one thing: mobile app innovation. In regards to athletics research, we have worked with a local University and the Canadian Olympic Swim Team in the creation of [Swimlytics](https://shiverware.com/swimlytics/).

Project Details

Cross country skiing (classic and skate) along with biathlon are the most common winter activities around the world, yet there are very few mobile tracking applications. With our skills in mobile development and human motion analytics, we aim to develop an application (phone/watch) that provides novel activity tracking as well as digital coaching for nordic skiing and biathlon. The application will automatically track distance, time, pole count, speed, technique and other metrics (similar to RunKeeper for running). It may also integrate with a barrel mounted camera to track biathlon marksman accuracy in the future. The application will push the envelope for both amateur and professional athletes.

Goals / Outcomes

The goal of the project is to establish the viability of the concept. For example, the global market size for the different project areas (classic skiing, skate skiing, biathlon) broken down by location and area to determine viability. A business analysis, along with ideas on the go to market strategy, would help set the stage for future project direction.

The work done will help determine if there is a sound business case to develop the application further. As we prove our prototype, we are also looking to prove & develop our market and business model. This information will help us determine if a market exists for our product and the various business models we could use to make it a viable product.

Successful outcomes include a market research report, informed by primary data collection.

Feedback through surveys or conversations with future consumers would be appreciated to gather insights into buying behaviours, expectations, and experiences.

This data should inform a final report that outlines key metrics that we can use to analyze the viability of this product and inform future marketing plans.

Position

The position is for the primary product lead. The candidate will lead and execute marketing and business planning of the concept into the prototype / pre-release phase. Work will be completed alongside the technical / management team, which will provide support in regards to product direction and technical capabilities.

Duties

  • Determine market size (Classic & Skate Nordic Skiers, Biathlete's or possibly Olympic type precision shooters)
