Background

Werrv ( https://werrv.ca/ ) is a start-up, incorporated in January 2021, with quarterly HST filings and a first fiscal year-end of of December 31, 2021. We have come a long way in 9 months, signing suppliers, creating an on-line store, offering a targeted set of products in the recreationally vehicle industry, attracting over 25,000 visitors to date and selling in the $10's of thousands of dollars in the past few months. We have ambitious plans, which can only be shared with successful finalists under an NDA, for obvious reasons. We sell on-line using Shopify (the world leader in on-line sales platforms at over 5% of the internet). Our accounting system is Quickbooks (Multi-currency) on-line (the most common accounting system for growing businesses). We have commercial contracts in place with some of North America's largest manufacturers, distributors, shippers and suppliers, so naturally, we have a lot of transactions. More than 95% of our transactions are automated under processing rules, but we still have 5% that need some TLC. Our books are in good shape, but, they need a solid review, we have quarterly sales taxes to file, and we are growing our business in the USA.

This internship provides a unique opportunity to work with the founder, experience entrepreneurship from the front seat, gain a "whole company" view of an organization from Shareholder Accounting to supplier agreements compliance, to best-practice automation of routine transactions and, when that is all humming even better, the chance to be part of a very exciting new growth opportunity.

Project Scope ( the bullet point summary)

• Review and Assess Accounting Current State - recommend any updates to Chart of Account, Rules, etc.
• Improve automation rules if applicable
• Review sales tax attribution and participate in quarterly tax filing
• Review and recommend updates to Shareholder Accounting, if Applicable
• Reconcile Accounts Monthly
• Participate in review of US tax accounting and reporting as part of US expansion
• Identify and execute Management Accounting for Shipping and other core areas of management interest.
• Experiment with customs self-declaration for cross-border transactions.

This is a great assignment for an ambitious student (or small team) with solid accounting skills who wants a real-world referenceable project to practice full oversight of accounting in a North American context so they can take a more senior role in a fast growing start-up, be part of a n new entrepreneurial venture or provide accounting services to a large group of clients in on-line sales (a huge market).
