Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

The goal of the project is to deliver an in-depth data analysis of prosthetic socket users to identify the prevalence of the key pain point Vessl proposes to solve and the importance of the proposed solution.

The outcomes will be:

1) A presentation to company founders outlining major research findings, trends in issues faced by lower limb amputees and how those issues are addressed, as well as wishes and aspirations of amputees.

2) Supporting Excel file containing in-depth summaries and resources including:

i. Demographics

ii. Source of information

iii. Current problems (prevalence and severity)

iv. Current methods by which problems are addressed and the effectiveness of those solutions

v. “Wish lists”; what key things or themes are amputees hoping for?

Example questions to ask yourself:

1. What are the major pain points amputees face?

2. How many amputees are facing these problems?

3. What are the consequences of these problems?

4. What are amputees currently doing to fix these problems?

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

· Review of qualitative data collected from amputees by Vessl via surveys (gives an idea of the types of information Vessl is interested in obtaining)

· Discovery and interpretation of qualitative data

· Creation of a slide deck with key information

· Create and organize supporting documentation for company use

How will you support learners in completing the project?

· Guidance on project goals and company needs with specific deliverables discussed on a weekly basis

· Example of qualitative data for guidance

Vessl is changing the way amputees interact with their prosthetic devices. We are a company born out of Canada's premier medical innovation fellowship at Western University and are proud members of Ontario's and Canada's life sciences ecosystem. We are a newly minted company in the early stages of product development for a self-adjusting prosthetic socket, which creates the interface between the amputee's residual limb and prosthesis. Sydney can fill a room with her optimism and makes sure things run smoothly while applying her skills as an engineer to steer the prototype in the right direction. Oleksiy, the clinical anatomist brings a creative touch to every challenge and finds diamonds in the rough to make sure Vessl stays agile and innovative at every step. We are excited to bring new talent onboard and look forward to meeting student's from across the country that can help us take the next steps.
