I am a professor who teaches a course titled Truth and Reconciliation. For their final projects, students explore one of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action in a blog post submission. Students have the option to include their final projects on a public-facing website called Nàbowàdjige: Our Calls to Action.
I am in search of one or two individuals who would be willing to partner with me to convert students' final projects into Wordpress pages. If you are looking to build your skills with basic Wordpress functions such as creating and publishing blog posts, ensuring accessibility, readability and the like, this might be a good opportunity for you.
Additionally, through your engagement with this project you'll learn more about reconciliation in Canada, accessible web design, open educational practices, and Creative Commons licensing.
Depending on their existing skills, background knowledge, and availability, participants may engage in some or all of the following:
- Wordpress Basics training
- Web Accessibility Basics training
- Learning about Creative Commons Licenses
- Learning about the TRC and the 94 Calls to Action
- Reading critical updates re: progress on the 94 Calls to Action
- Reading about OER-Enabled Pedagogical Practices (Open Pedagogy)
- Populating the existing Wordpress site by converting .docs, .ppts, and .pdfs into functional and accessible Wordpress pages
- Other related tasks can be mutually agreed upon
Students do not require any knowledge of Wordpress to participate in this project. I am hoping that learning basic Wordpress functionality and web accessibility basics will be two learning outcomes that arise from this project.
I will work with students to help them self-assess their current knowledge levels and learning requirements. I will work with them to transfer all necessary files, clarify various processes, and ensure that they are set up to succeed. I will meet regularly with students to assess progress, provide support, and troubleshoot as required.
