PROJECT DESCRIPTION/DESCRIPTION DU PROJET:

Tabitha Osler was inspired to create Fairechild after working in the fashion industry and recognizing an urgent need for sustainable change. As a mother herself, and believer in the power of outdoor play, she created the outerwear brand with the hope that children can play outside all day, whatever the weather. Fairechild’s popularity continues to grow as it’s been featured in publications like Martha Stewart Living and Maire Claire, and most recently, the winner of the Fedex Small Business Grant award and Milk Magazine Green award. We are looking for a student intern to help us research manufacturing opportunities and local retail space options and then present it to the CEO and GM of fairechild.

KEY PROJECT ACTIVITIES/TÂCHES ASSOCIÉES AU PROJET:

  • Research duty and tax fees for importing children's wear to Canada from various countries
  • Research and communicate with manufacturer's to obtain cost quotations and other variables within fairechild's criteria
  • Create a report outlining information including taxes and duties, cost etc. including contacts for manufacturer's being presented
  • Research local commercial real estate for retail space that will accommodate fairechild's needs and present to the CEO and GM with a cost analysis breakdown of expenses related to the available spaces and why the location/neighbourhood is an optimal choice

  • Create a report with cost analysis of potential manufacturers that meet fairechild's criteria
  • Create a report with cost analysis of local retail space and area's that would be an optimal choice for fairechild
  • Present both reports to the CEO & GM

Mentorship

Onboarding and description of project would be given on day 1. The student can then work at their own pace within the hours requirement to meet deadlines given. The GM would be available via phone or email during business hours to answer any questions and weekly check in's would be had with the student in-person or via Google Meet.

The company is owned and operated by Ms. Tabitha Osler, who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Masters in Fashion/Design. The fabric used to make fairechild products is produced from recycled plastic containers, and the products themselves are fully recyclable.
