Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

BCHPCA is looking at rebranding itself and educating the community and government on what Hospice Societies do in BC and the Yukon for their communities.

We have a great story to tell and we want it to be picked up by media outlets, the public, social media, etc. We need students to create press releases, pitches, and news releases for us.

We are hoping that communicate our purposes and philosophy of the organization to the community-at-large and, specifically, to potential funders, volunteers and donors, by making effective use of a variety of approaches.

Students should be prepared to:

  • Help us refine our story to something compelling and news-worthy
  • Write up press releases around multiple services and newsworthy information that hospice provides.
  • Identify media outlets that are most beneficial to us/most likely to pick the story up.
  • Send press releases and establish a positive rapport with media contacts, government officials and the public.
  • Secure media exposure for our organization.
  • Plans effective use of media through press releases and participation in possible community activities.
  • Prepare written material to support fund-raising/grant efforts.
  • Research potential sources of grant money and works with the Executive Director to prepare grant proposals.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing.
  • Good judgment, creativity and an enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective personal relationships.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. - Virtual due to COVID restrictions.
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Through this internship, students will get a chance to have their work publically released and take part in creative and grant writing processes.

Students will meet on a weekly basis (virtually) for team check-in and one on ones with the direct report.
