Details

The main goal for the project is to design version 2 of Quench, a houseplant watering alarm, that will make improvements based on customer feedback. This will involve creating a new PCB design for the hardware component and writing new code in the microcontroller for the software component.

Deliverables

Tasks for learners to complete to achieve the project goal:

- Analyze customer feedback on the current version of Quench.

- Design and create a new printed circuit board (PCB) for the hardware component.

- Write new code in the microcontroller for the software component.

- Test the new version of Quench to ensure it effectively solves the customer feedback issues that the team agrees to solve.

- Document the design process and outcomes in a final report.

- Present the new version of Quench and the improvements made based on customer feedback.

Mentorship

As a team of experienced electrical engineers with backgrounds in PCB design, coding, and manufacturing, we are committed to providing support and mentorship to students working on the Quench V2. Here are the specific ways we will support learners:

Staff Time: We will dedicate significant time to mentoring students, including weekly virtual meetings to provide consistent guidance, feedback, and support. These meetings will offer a platform for discussing progress, troubleshooting issues, and planning next steps.

Access to Tools and Technology: Students will have access to a variety of hardware tools necessary for PCB design and prototyping. Additionally, we are prepared to purchase any additional tools required to ensure the project's success.

Educational Support: We will offer instruction in key areas such as coding, design principles, and design for manufacture. This support aims to equip students with valuable skills and knowledge that will benefit their future careers.

Mentorship Experience: Leveraging our background in engineering management, we bring extensive experience in mentoring young technical talent. Our guidance will help students navigate project challenges and achieve their goals.

Industry Connections: Through our network of industry peers, we can connect students with additional resources and professionals who can provide further insights and support.

QuenchPlant is dedicated to providing innovative technology tools for plant care. Our goal is to become an international brand that is synonymous with quality and innovation in the field of plant care.

We design and manufacture novel products that help take the guesswork out of plant care. Our latest product is Quench - A unique voice for your plant. Quench measures soil moisture content and based on the type of plant that's used will notify when the plant needs water. Every Quench plays a unique tone when it's time to water and instead, illuminates red at night.

QuenchPlant strives to become a world leader in smart plant care tools.
