Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

The main goal for the project is to simulate the mechanical and chemical Hysis processes for Turbine, Cogen, and Boilers for VL Energy Ltd. This will involve several different steps for the learners, including:

- Understanding the mechanical and chemical processes involved in Turbine, Cogen, and Boilers.

- Developing a Hysis process simulation software to model the processes.

- Optimizing the simulation software for accurate representation of the processes.

- Testing the simulation software and making improvements based on the data.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, learners should demonstrate:

- Understanding of mechanical and chemical processes in Turbine, Cogen, and Boilers.

- Development of a Hysis process simulation software.

- Optimization of the simulation software for accurate representation.

- Testing and improvements of the simulation software based on data.

Final deliverables should include:

- All source materials.

- A written report explaining the design process and outcomes.

How will you support learners in completing the project?
  1. Dedicated Staff Time: Experienced engineers and project managers will allocate specific hours each week to mentor interns. This includes one-on-one meetings, progress reviews, and troubleshooting sessions to ensure interns have the guidance they need.
  2. Access to Tools and Technology: Interns will have full access to state-of-the-art software tools essential for process simulation, such as Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB, or ANSYS, depending on the project's requirements. Workstations equipped with the necessary hardware and software will be provided to facilitate their project work.
  3. Training Sessions: Initial training sessions will be organized to familiarize interns with the tools and methodologies they will be using. This includes software tutorials, workshops on simulation techniques, and best practices in process engineering.
  4. Access to Data: Interns will be granted access to necessary data repositories, including historical project data, process parameters, and case studies relevant to their project. This will help them understand the context and apply practical insights to their simulation tasks.
  5. Collaborative Work Environment: Interns will be encouraged to work collaboratively, leveraging the collective knowledge and experience of their peers and mentors. Regular team meetings will be held to discuss challenges, share ideas, and foster a supportive learning environment.
  6. Professional Development Opportunities: Apart from project-specific support, interns will be encouraged to attend seminars, webinars, and industry conferences to broaden their understanding of process engineering and simulation.
  7. Feedback and Evaluation: Constructive feedback will be provided regularly, with formal evaluations conducted at key project milestones to assess progress and identify areas for improvement.

What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, learners can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

- Mechanical and chemical engineering principles.

- Process simulation software development.

- Testing and optimization of software.

Students will be expected to research and learn more about the above as the project goes along.
