Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

COLAGE is looking for a Data Analysis Intern/ Intern team to help with data cleaning, entry, analysis, visualization and CRM integration. The intern team will report directly to the Development Director and work across departments. The Development Department helps to maintain and forge important partnerships and relationships and sustain the fundraising efforts of the organization. In order to do so more effectively we need to create and maintain better systems of data capture and analysis, organize a master list of contacts, integrate contacts and data into Salesforce, and create data visualization for internal reference and external communications.

This will involve:

Familiarizing themselves with our current data

  • Providing assistance in creating new databases
  • Transferring data into our databases efficiently
  • Verifying the accuracy of the data in our databases and making relevant updates
  • Organizing and retrieving data as requested
  • Creating data visualizations
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Familiarity with our databases
  • Efficient data transfer
  • Verification of data accuracy
  • Organization and retrieval of data
  • Data visualization based on annual survey and other collected data

Bonus steps would include:

Recommendations on how to collect and utilize data that benefits our community by reaching out to them with more applicable communications and relevant fundraising opportunities

  • Assisting in creating training for new databases
  • Community survey
  • A list of prospective wealthy donors based on zip code
  • Entering spreadsheet data from Google Sheets into AirTable

Final deliverables should include

  • A complete master list of contacts with appropriate tags and data markers
  • A partial if not complete transfer of data into Salesforce
  • Data visualizations
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our past surveys, current spreadsheets and databases
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter
  • Information about individual contacts that may not be clear in notes or tags
  • We’re available to answer questions by video call, email, text and phone
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Data entry and large databases including Salesforce
  • Data analysis and visualization

Again, students can complete this project without any of the prior knowledge listed here. Students will be expected to research and learn more about the above as the project goes along.
