Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

We would like to support our volunteers and help connect them to recruiters and hiring managers looking for talent. We currently work with a team of over 10 volunteers, much of whom are still completing their undergraduate degree or a newcomer. Our objective with this role is to create a mailing list of recruiters and hiring managers who will be sent our monthly newsletter. Our aim is to make recruiters and hiring managers more aware of the amazing work our volunteers do with the goal of potentially hiring them or scheduling an interview with them.

This project will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Documenting the current state of our staff and volunteer recruitment process, from the time the resource need is identified to the time the position is filled.
  • Evaluate the skills, experiences, and motivations of potential volunteers or employees to ensure they align with the organization's needs and values.
  • Assessing our current process and making recommendations for improvements and efficiencies.
  • Actively seek out individuals with the skills and passion necessary to contribute to the organization's goal. This may involve outreach through social media, community events, and networking.
  • Suggesting feedback mechanisms to gather input from staff, volunteers, and applicants
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

  • Be able to document current recruitment process
  • Excel/google spreadsheet depicting the name and emails of recruiters/ hiring managers to be included in our mailing list.
  • Collaborate with different departments to understand their specific skill requirements
  • Research and implement effect recruitment strategies, considering both online and offline channels
  • Develop and implemented a system for receiving and reviewing applications
  • Screen candidates based on their skills, experiences, and alignment with the organization's mission
  • A 30-minute presentation on the completed project as well as any recommendations for improvements
About the company

The Racialized Students is a registered non-profit organization. We launched in 2020 during the onset of the pandemic. We were founded to be a resource for Black and racialized students to partake in meaningful research training and networking opportunities that help them advance throughout their academic journey and career journey.

We achieve this through the provision of mentorship, research, and employment training opportunities.

Our mission is to increase the representation of Black people across interdisciplinary Health sectors and increase the rate of employment among Black youth through career advancement training.

We envision a safer and inclusive Toronto where all Torontonians particularly Black and racialized communities can access services and employment free from racism and discrimination.
