  1. Requirement Analysis & Planning

  • Gather and document functional and non-functional requirements for the API from stakeholders.
  • Define the API’s purpose, core features, and performance expectations.
  1. API Architecture & Design

  • Design the API architecture following RESTful (or relevant) principles and industry best practices.
  • Create clear endpoint definitions, data models, and authentication methods.
  1. Development & Implementation

  • Build secure, scalable, and well-documented API endpoints that meet the agreed specifications.
  • Implement authentication, rate limiting, and error-handling mechanisms.
  1. Integration & Testing

  • Ensure seamless integration of the API with client applications or third-party services.
  • Conduct comprehensive unit, integration, and performance testing.
  1. Documentation & Developer Resources

  • Provide clear API documentation (e.g., using Swagger/OpenAPI) for developers to consume and integrate the API.
  • Include usage examples, request/response formats, and error code references.
  1. Deployment & Version Control

  • Deploy the API to a staging environment for review and testing.
  • Implement versioning strategy for future updates.
  1. Knowledge Transfer & Handover

  • Train relevant stakeholders on how to use, maintain, and extend the API.
  • Deliver all code, documentation, and credentials to the company in a secure format.
