TEST PROJECT: Writing an affiliate marketing article showcasing a "Top 5” product choices.

Overview

We are building an affiliate marketing website site and are looking for a handful of writers who can create affiliate marketing articles on an ongoing basis. We’re using this first exercise to ascertain your writing and project management skills.

References for your creative direction

• Review this sample article about the Best Home Office Speaker and Sound Systems to gain a sense of what we want in terms of structure, technical details and final deliverables. You are encouraged to bring your own voice to the copy. However, it’s more important to be fast and accurate than trying to be overly creative. These are short, punchy product reviews with the occasional dash of personality versus doing a deep dive into anything technical.
• You can also look at this article at CNN Underscored which is also an affiliate website. Both should give you a general sense of what we want you to write for one of the topics below. Obviously you won’t have the actual product sample to reference or test, but if you look around on the internet, you can mine some good nuggets from what’s already out there. Don’t plagiarize, please. But you can certainly gain a bunch of references and talking points about the products to be able to generate an article from what’s already out there on the internet.

If you, as a writer, have a natural panache for technical writing, that’s great. But we’re also going to need people to write about home goods and soft goods as well. We say this so you can pick a topic that’s in your wheelhouse. You may choose to write a sample article for one of three topics:

1. Best home office laptops
2. Best home office work chairs
3. Best Small Business credit cards

Instructions

• Step 1: Go online and do a search for “best home office laptops” (or one of the other topics). You will use the articles that pop up as a starting point for your research, talking points, etc., to create your version of the article and product profiles.
  Step 2: Write the article (and if you’d like to write one product spotlight and an intro for the article to ensure you’re on the right track, that’s perfectly acceptable.
• Step 3: Download an image of the product and insert it into the article (as shown below)
• Step 4: Copy and paste a link to where you can buy the product on the internet. You can generally find most of these products (and some good research for your reviews on Amazon, CNET, Wayfair, etc.).
• Step 5: Send the completed article to branden@object9.com.
