Details

MVolta Inc. (Quench Plant) has identified a recurring issue with the terminals of their new consumer electronic device for houseplants, which tend to detach after prolonged exposure to moist soil. This project aims to investigate the underlying causes of this detachment and develop improved adhesion methods to ensure long-term durability. By simulating real-world conditions using a heated, corrosive ultrasonic bath, students will analyze the failure mechanisms that contribute to terminal detachment. The project will provide an opportunity for students to apply their classroom knowledge in materials science and chemistry to test innovative bonding techniques. The ultimate goal is to extend the lifespan of the device, ensuring it remains functional and reliable for consumers.

Deliverables

The project will culminate in a comprehensive report detailing the failure mechanisms identified and the innovative bonding techniques tested. Students will also present a set of recommendations for improved adhesion methods. Deliverables include:

- A detailed analysis of terminal detachment causes.

- A summary of testing results from simulated conditions of old and new methods.

- Recommendations for enhanced bonding techniques to improve device durability.

QuenchPlant is dedicated to providing innovative technology tools for plant care. Our goal is to become an international brand that is synonymous with quality and innovation in the field of plant care.

We design and manufacture novel products that help take the guesswork out of plant care. Our latest product is Quench - A unique voice for your plant. Quench measures soil moisture content and based on the type of plant that's used will notify when the plant needs water. Every Quench plays a unique tone when it's time to water and instead, illuminates red at night.

QuenchPlant strives to become a world leader in smart plant care tools.
