sustainability planning cooperation engineering design process environmental studies green building electric vehicle (ev) installation supplier identification and selection sustainability improvement procurementWe would like to make our housing co-operative more environmentally friendly.
We have secured funding for a number of activities: greenhouse, community garden, solar panel and EV installation and improving the energy efficiency of the building. The project is being overseen by a Professor at York University.
An implementation plan was established -- this would include identifying suppliers and contractors, designing the layout/location of the above activities, and creating a timeline and work plan to implement the activities - this team will work with the professor to implement the plan.
This project would help reduce the carbon footprint of our building. We would like Engineering, Design and Environmental Studies students to develop an implement the sustainability plan in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
The final deliverables should take the form of:
- Implementation of the plan developed by the previous cohort - depending on the sustainability improvement, the final deliverable could take the form of implementing a design, procurement of sustainable building materials, in-person learning sessions with the professor on green building and technology, and assisting with the installation of green technology
Students will connect directly with the employer for mentorship and supervision throughout the project. Students will be required to visit the housing co-operative to better understand the site layout and the challenges to implementation.
