About the Company

We are a Toronto-based startup that aims to make the cross-interaction between customers and vendors more streamlined. Targeted towards post-secondary students on the consumer side, the CheaprEats platform allows users to place food orders on the go, pick up in store while avoiding long lines, and receive discounts by connecting their network. On the vendor side, CheaprEats provides state-of-the-art restaurant software that helps restaurants to better manage and grow their business.

Project Scope

Our organization is able to offer a virtual internship opportunity for (x number of/x team(s) of) students/interns.

The project will be about developing table management desktop systems. Students will design and implement a front-end and back-end desktop application for vendors which can be used to map tables inside a restaurant. Restaurants should be able to map out their store layout, including the layout of their tables as well as seating arrangements depending on the seat count needed.

The functions of this system include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to create tables with their type and capacity
  • Ability to name the tables or use table numbers as identifiers
  • Ability to rearrange, add, remove, or otherwise alter the table layout
  • Ability to show available or occupied tables
  • Ability to show advanced ticket operations including splitting and merging
  • Ability to optimize seating arrangements and to allocate by party size

This will give students the opportunity to practice and apply the knowledge they have gained in class to create a real-world web application or website. They will receive guidance and feedback throughout the process in order to improve upon their skills.

The primary focus for the student will be:

  • Software architecture development
  • Application development
  • Researching comparables
  • Receiving feedback on their work and iterating accordingly
  • Working in a multidisciplinary team include management, engineers, and other interns

Our goal at the end of this experience is:

  • A tested prototype of this table management desktop system that the company can finalize for deployment to vendors
  • A short brief with user instructions for vendors using the application

Other duties the student may complete could include:

We will plan to communicate with our virtual intern using these communication tools:
