GameJobs.Ninja is a new hiring platform that aims to streamline the recruitment process in the video games industry. We would like to provide Employers with a library of various kinds of assessments relevant to all kinds of roles in games, which they can use to screen and shortlist candidates applying to their openings. At the same time, any Job Seekers can complete these assessments at any time to not only practice their skills but also build a portfolio to showcase what they're capable of. These completed assessments can then advance the Job Seekers to subsequent hiring stages quicker when they apply to any openings using the same assessments, making everything more efficient for both Employers and Job Seekers.

Currently, we need help from 9 students with researching various functions within the games industry (e.g. programming, art, game design, project management, quality assurance, audio design, community management, customer support, etc.) to:

  1. Breakdown each function into sub-categories (e.g. Game Design could include Gameplay Design, Combat Design, Level Design, Economy Design, etc.);
  2. List all relevant Skills (both hard skills such as a programming language or a particular software, as well as soft skills such as communication and organization) to be assigned to various sub-categories;
  3. Most importantly, compile a list of assessments we can use for each Skill, regardless of which function or sub-category it belongs to. This includes not only coming up with the problem/question, but also what the correct answer should be.

Assessments can include the following types:

  • A. Question & Answer - These questions can be used in a written format or in an interview. They can be Multiple Choice, Open-Ended, etc.
  • B. Assignment - A problem is presented to the candidate, who needs to follow certain instructions to solve the problem within a time limit.

We have examples of various assessments to use a reference.

The research for all of the above will likely be documented in a tool called Airtable, which is similar to how spreadsheets work. As such, students who are familiar to Airtable or spreadsheets would find it easier to learn and navigate.

This opportunity can be assigned to a team or multiple teams of students. By tackling this challenge, students will learn more about the HR/Recruitment industry as well as the video games industry, while also preparing them with what recruitment processes may be like for when they need to look for a job after graduation.

Mentorship

The students will meet with our team at least once a week through Google Meet to discuss progress, plan upcoming tasks, and address any issues. The students will digitally submit a written update describing any task/progress update on every day where work is done. Our team is available through Chat during work hours to help with any issues and provide any guidance.

Most importantly, we understand that this is a valuable learning experience for the students, so we will offer as much mentorship as possible on not only the tasks assigned to the students but also on their overall career goals. We will also offer a performance review for the students to provide any feedback on what they're good at, any areas of improvement, and our suggestions for their future growth based on their personal and career goals.
