Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

The main goal of this project is to optimize ODLAN's onboarding process for new volunteers. This is part one of a two-part project. Part one involves creating a system that will walk volunteering through an onboarding process that familiarizes them with ODLAN's mission, mandate, and current project. Phase two focuses on optimizing volunteer participation, by creating a process for volunteers to register for ODLAN teams and projects within those teams.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Part 1 (this project)

1. Develop an onboarding process & welcome package. The welcome package will include essential documents volunteers must review and sign. It includes developing volunteer registration & in-take forms.

2. Create a short learning module (in canva) that will help volunteers become familiar with ODLAN"s mission, mandate, and current projects.

3. Create a list of places we can connect with to share our volunteer opportunities

Part 2 (Next Project)

1. Develop a workflow process for volunteers: Create team descriptions list of projects each team handles, and create a system that allows volunteers to sign-up for volunteer tasks that interest them.

2. Work with current volunteers to gain insight into possible workflow strategies.

3. Develop a project template that team leads can use to develop their projects for volunteers.

4. Work with volunteer team leads to develop 8 concrete projects.

About the company

ODLAN is a registered non-profit organization that aims to remove digital literacy and access barriers for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members. We are a community-based, volunteer-led organization that was founded by 2SLGBTQIA+ graduate students, community leaders, and allies who have first hand experience working with 2SLGBTQIA+ community members with limited access to the knowledge and hardware needed to participate in online spaces. Our vision is to empower service providers with the resources, tools, and knowledge to build digital strategies that use an intergenerational approach to remove access barriers to digital programs and related services.
