Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Our team is looking to take our social media presence to the next level in order to engage queerspawn (people with one or more LGBTQ+ parents) who don't already access our programming and resources. COLAGE is looking for an intern for the Fall and/or Spring semester! The Social Media Intern will support the COLAGE staff to develop and implement outreach and promotional campaigns to boost brand engagement and increase programming attendance. Applicants must be eligible for school credit. This is an unpaid position. This position will require 5-10 hours per week and you will report to the National Program Director.

The goal for this role is to facilitate operational ease between departments and the social media team, to expand the audience who currently access our social media and to engage more deeply with those who currently use our platforms.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Assist with the design and execution of social media campaigns
  • Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
  • Respond to comments and DMs on social media platforms
  • Brainstorm and research ideas for original content
  • Create compelling graphics to share across social channels
  • Write social media captions that speak to COLAGE’s audience
  • Help create and edit short-form videos
  • In coordination with the National Program Director, develop new strategies for increasing engagement
  • Ensure brand message is consistent
  • Research Search Engine Optimization requirements for us to rank on the first page of Google.
  • Candidates are not required to work between normal hours except for specific meetings that will be planned around your schedule
  • Candidates will be required to track their time and company activities
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project by reporting to the Communications Director and collaborating with the National Program Directorand the social media team. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • How do we rank on Google based on different search terms?
  • When and how much do we typically post on social media?
  • Which social media posts get the most engagement?
  • Who should I ask to be in a short form video?
  • Who in our community fits into a particular demographic?
  • What organizations do we currently have relationships with and who are we trying to build relationships with?
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Digital marketing and social media channels
  • Canva, GSuite and video editing software
  • Social media marketing strategies and trends
  • Creating short form videos

Nice to haves for students include

  • Experience working with a social justice, anti-racist, pro-LGBTQ+ organization

Again, students can complete this project with entry level skills. Students will be expected to research and learn more about this above as the project goes along.
