Learner goals and capabilities

In this class, students will learn tools and techniques for process improvement that are commonly used today under organizational initiatives such as Lean Management and Six Sigma. Students will study problem solving concepts including statistical models that are the basis for these tools and techniques.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables include a report detailing students' research and recommendations, as well as a presentation summarizing the recommendations.

Project Examples

Students will analyze your company's processes and suggest areas for improvement. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Your industry – e.g., healthcare, or consumer goods manufacturing – and the use of process improvement initiatives in the industry
  • Your process improvement organizational infrastructure, e.g., organizational chart, project selection and prioritization, training, and employee participation
  • Your process improvement practices, e.g., types of projects, execution of projects, post-project activities
  • Any unique features of the process improvement initiative(s), areas of excellence, and weaknesses.
