Learner goals and capabilities

The “Glo Up” program will take the students to new heights, and will carefully guide students through multimedia storytelling and bring visions to life in every aspect of media, creative arts, and entertainment disciplines.

The phrase Glo Up/Glow Up refers to positive transformations, growth, and elevation. The goal is to assist students to reach their greatest potential, by providing them with as many amazing opportunities as possible so they can spread their wings and soar.

The “Glo Up” program is working with Advance Ontario - a unique initiative that enables employers to engage Canadian post-secondary students for 80-hour paid projects. Students receive a $1,400 CAD stipend from Riipen upon successful project completion. Employers are not required to provide payment.

Advance Ontario provides eligible students internship opportunities to help develop real-world, in demand skills. Internships are hosted remotely with Ontario employers who are eager to mentor the next generation of talent.

Powered by Riipen, the world's leading online work-based learning marketplace, students are paid to complete projects each spanning 80 hours over 2-8 weeks.

With a target of allocating 70% of the internships to students from underrepresented groups, the Advance Ontario internships extend to eligible postsecondary students in Ontario, including international students, from Publicly Assisted Postsecondary Institutions. The program aims to enhance inclusive workforce development, helping companies in diversifying their talent pool, with a goal of creating permanent job placements and contributing to Ontario's economy.

Important points

  • Project deliverables will differ based on scope, but a comprehensive report or other assets should be produced by project completion, aiding your business goals.
  • Regular communication with students enhances project outcomes.
  • If confidentiality is key, consider having students sign an NDA using our agreements feature. They can still submit work on the platform by uploading redacted samples, using the worklog feature, and writing a brief project reflection.

Our help articles in the Advance Ontario Knowledge Centre can help you get started.

Project Examples

Projects must be 80 hours of work and completed within 2-8 weeks.

Students will have the opportunity to work directly with other top industry professionals to get hands-on experience in the media arts and entertainment industries. This can include being on a music video set with a star, planning an event with a celebrity chef, or participating in editorial-style brand shoots.

They will have direct opportunities to work on launches for the founders jewellery collection, alcohol brand, and upcoming TV/film projects. In this program, the founder has adjusted her campaigns and launch structure to accommodate students on countless team projects to help them gain real life experiences while learning the ropes of the industry, networking, and building their portfolios. Some projects are led by industry professionals—like larger “Top Model” style campaigns—and others are student-led.
